Bridget and Hal C. from Marco Island, FL just bought a beautiful 2014 Leopard44 named TRAVELLER and wanted to take it to the Chesapeake Bay for the summer. So they hired Jeff from MiraMar Adventures as their instructor and delivery captain.
We spent a few days in Marco Island getting the boat ready (including autopilot repair / recalibration) and practicing docking and maneuvering under power.
The first leg of the delivery was from Marco Island to Windley Key anchorage, then through Snake Creek to Tavernier. Yes, the 68-foot mast height above water did fit under the wires near the Snake Creek bascule bridge.
In addition to Pilot the watch dog, excellent crew-member Bill M. joined us for the ocean leg from Tavernier to Norfolk, VA.
We motored for the first two days and then the winds came so we reached and sailed downwind for most of the second half of the trip.
The 850 nautical mile ocean leg took 4 days and 6 hours, making for an average speed of 8.3 knots, thanks to the Gulf Stream current.
Also thanks to Chris Parker for the weather forecast and routing advice.
Congratulations to Hal and Bridget on getting their boat and on a successful first cruise. We hope you have many years of enjoyment aboard Traveller!
